Rude Fruit // Durex Fruit Flavoured Condoms
Back in the late 90s Durex were launching their first range of fruit flavoured, ribbed and coloured condoms, and wanted to appeal to an adventurous young audience who were mostly reading magazines like Loaded, GQ and Men’s Health. The idea was to place the flavour at the heart of the idea in as bold a way as possible.
Model maker Gavin Lindsay spent two weeks making the models, as real fruit couldn’t withstand the heat of the studio lights. We shot them all on large format 10x8 film over the course of a week. These days of course, we’d be using CGI or Ai.
The ads ran all over the UK, spent 10 years on condom vending machines and were even stolen and used as nightclub flyers for a venue in London.
